Appearance and Character:
White crystalline powder or granules. It is stable in air. It dissolves in water.
National Formulary/ Food Chemicals Codex Grade: Passes N.F. & F.C.C. Tests. Sodium Benzoate is Kosher and Passes EP and BP tests for European Pharmacopeia/ British Pharmacopeia Grade.
Applications and Uses:
Sodium Benzoate is used as a preservative in several kinds of food products. For example, sauces, pickles, salad dressings and spreads, juices and drinks, jellies and jams and fruit snacks.
It is a good antiseptic. It is bacteriostatic and fungistatic under acidic conditions. It can be used in toothpastes and ointments.
It is also used in adhesives and antifreeze and is an anticorrosive product in oil and grease lubricants.
Sodium Benzoate can also be used as an additive in the production of Polypropylene.
